Sharpening stone crisis ~solution

Since I keep my question about waht is difference of oilstone and waterstone, I checked many many wabsite and I think I have found my answer from few Japanease web site.Which is...Japan has history of Katana(Japanease sword) from long time ago and Japan is country of water that is why Japanease people use with water. But oilstone is come from Arcansas, USA and some place like middle west does not have so much water. The oil use for sharpening knife is better than use water for them.

The oilstone can use with water also but you have to use as waterstone because it has to be emulate if you use water and oil. From those things I believe their is not so much difference with oil and waterstone but habital use each country. But it better be respect long time custom sentence "woodcurving knife is waterstone, burin and rocker is oilstone" so I gonna buy this line.


砥石の謎　～解決？編

「なぜ木版画の彫刻刀は水砥石、ビュランやベルソー(ロッカー）はオイルストーンで研ぐの？」という素朴な疑問を解決すべくネットで色々と勉強しました。漸く幾つかの解答らしきサイトに辿り着く事が出来、これにて疑問はほぼ解決しさっぱりしました。

まず、オイルストーンは基本的に水砥石としても使用できるそうです。ただその場合はずっと水砥石として使い続けなければなりません（乳化して粒子をふさいでしまう為）。オイルで研ぐ利点は主に研いだ後サビの心配がない事、水砥石より硬いので減りが少なく長持ちする事、水砥石は包丁など口に入れるものを研ぐ場合オイルより水の方が安心な事などなど他にもそれぞれ細かく利点・不利点がありますが、基本的には｢この成分なら水砥石(オイルストーン）でなければならない」というような違いは無いようでした。
にも拘らず水砥石とオイルストーンと用途別になったのは砥石の使用されている国によるものが大きいようです。

すなわち、日本は昔から水が豊富なので水で砥ぐ様になり、オイルストーンの主産地アーカンサス(アメリカ）では水の無い場所でもナイフを砥ぐ事が出来るようにオイルになった、というものです。

ようするに木版画って日本が発達してるものだから昔からの慣習で水砥石、ビュランやベルソーは西洋のものだからオイルストーン・・・・簡単に言うとコレだけの差しかないようです（汗）。硬く焼き込んだ鋼はオイル研ぎの方がよい、という様な事が書かれているサイトもありましたが日本刀など硬く焼き込んだものも水砥ぎしていたのですから、これはどうかな～？と思います。

ん～まぁ取り合えず疑問解決・・・かなぁ（苦笑）。

ちなみに以下のサイトを参考にさせて頂きました（あくまで代表でふたつだけ）。今日分らなかったらNORTON(アメリカの砥石会社）にメールしようかと思ってました(笑）。

まぁ疑問は解決として、やはり慣習は正しい理由があると思うので今後も彫刻刀には水砥石、ビュラン、ベルソーはオイルストーンで行きたいと思います☆

Woodblock print (mokuhan-ga) 1

I stopped my work with linolium because I didn't like "rubber" feeling. So I changed wood to shina-benia. This is japanease common (and cheep) woodblock print wood. I am gonna use every woodblock print wood for study. I need which wood is hard and soft and how much "hard" or "soft" it is.

I made underdrawing in my sketchbook and use washi(Japanease paper) traced underdrawing.

This time I am not use carbon paper. This time I am gonna use traditional classic Japanease way just like Ukiyo-e.

After sand and wet wood, I put some glue(japanease glue) and put underdrawing paper and wait for dry out. Then put water on it and carefully remove unnecessary part with your thumb.

木版画　１　下絵の和紙張り

リノリウムを中断し、別の下絵を描き始めていたのですがどの版を使うのか良く分らないので本番の版画を作る前に一通りの版木を彫ってみよう！と思い、まずはシナベニアです。なるべく日本の伝統的な手法をやってみたいので和紙張りでやる事にしました。

シナベニアを極細目でやすりかけて水刷毛で全面を濡らし、のりを伸ばして和紙を張り込みました。

一旦乾くまで置いて、少しずつ水を含ませて不必要な部分の和紙を親指にあまり力を入れずに剥ぎ取っていきます。でも全部取る感じではなく、上部分の繊維だけ剥ぎ取る感じ。

結果、和紙は中国製の雁皮紙を使用したのですが、もう少し厚めの紙の方がよさそうです。墨線ももう少し薄くても良いなぁ～次回は別の和紙で試してみます。

Sharpening stone crisis!

My first woodblock print is going to ready. First I am tring to do with small size basic wood for woodblock print in Japan "Shina benia".



And I purchased sharpening stone at Chinease store but it was oil stone. These alminium oxide stone is very cheep in US but I didn't mention tit was oil stone!There are two kind sharpening stone. One is oil stone which is use with oil and the other one is water stone which is use with water. The wood curving knives are use with waterstone and burin, rocker(bot for engraving cooper),regular knife is oil stone. Some website seys "ceramic is oil stone, steel is waterstone". But burin and rocker is steel,too. I still don't know these difference. Please give me e-mail if you know about these....

砥石の謎

砥石について悩んでいる。週末中国系のスーパーで買った砥石に「油石｣の文字が・・・。念の為翻訳サイトで訳しても「油砥石」と出たのでオイルストーンだと判定（翻訳サイトの不確かさはこの際置いとく）。成分はAlminium oxide。調べるとこのアルミニウム・オキサイドは安価な砥石としてアメリカでは一般的みたいだ。そうすると今まで水砥石として使用していた砥石もこの成分だったのでオイルストーンだった事が判明。

もともと「何故彫刻刀は水砥石でビュランやロッカー(ベルソー）はオイルストーンで研ぐの！？」という素朴かつ初心者な質問を持ったのだが、色んなサイトで検索してみると「鋼は水砥石、セラミックはオイルストーンで研ぐ」という説明をしている所が多い。しかし彫刻刀もビュランも鋼。じゃあこの分け方って何！？・・・細かい(微妙な)刃を研ぐのにオイルなのかとも思ったが、それなら１．５ｍｍ幅の極小彫刻刀の刃だってオイルで研がなくちゃいけない筈だ・・・・

・・・という訳で誰か知っていたら是非教えて下さい。メール待ってます☆

左：木版の下絵が出来たっ！今回は下絵を張り込むつもりで買ったやまとのり。小さい版なので外見当に自作したコーナー。メゾチントのインク詰め用に買ったローラー（これで漸くインク詰められる！！）。手芸店で見つけた小口木版(ホントはレリーフ用）のシナノキ。

"The sun is burning!" 3

I decided the title of my new painting at last. The title is "The sun is burning!（The sun as a street performer）"...bit long but I don't mind.I hope you too.

This is still like underpainting. I put first layer of casein tempera at ground.I will put oil color(not transparent) onto this layer.And buildings are underdrawing too. I will put more details for next.



「燃える太陽！（大道芸人の太陽）」　３

テンペラの層を大地部分に入れ太陽の輪郭と玉もテンペラ、建物や人物は油彩で入れていく。次は不透明の油彩で大地部分を作っていく作業。建物も輪郭部分だけなのでこれから細かくしていく。あと人物にテンペラを入れていく。版画の下絵は詰まっているが本画の方はよく進んでいる。

Bruxells Travel 6

Sablon Charch

Real name is L'Eglise Notre-Dame du Sablon.This beautiful gothic charch has located front of Petit Sablon (Place de Prtite sablon) at Sabron square.

This charch was building of guild on thirteen centry and famous of beautiful stained grass(photos) and eighteen centry wood pipe organ.Unfortunatery I didn't bring my monopod so I caputured blur image...

The charch could entered but few windows are middle of construction.But such a quite calm and beautiful place!

サブロン教会

サブロン教会はプチ・サブロン広場の正面、サブロン広場内にあるとても美しいゴシック教会である。もともと１３世紀のギルドの建物が教会になったもので、素晴らしいステンドグラスと１８世紀のパイプオルガンがある。大規模修理中では幾つかのステンドグラスのウィンドウは残念ながら塞がれていたけれど静粛な空気の中ゆっくりと座ってステンドグラスを鑑賞する事が出来た。

一脚は持って行かなかったので全て手持ち撮影になり、パイプオルガンもブレ捲くってます(汗）。

しかし後日雨天の時に一脚を持って街に出掛けたが、何故か脚部分が雲台からすっぽ抜けてしまったり、思っていた６割位しか役に立ちませんでした。とにかくどんなに雲台のねじを締めて肩に掛けていても３０回位脚部分が抜けて落ちたので面倒で使わなくなりました。

Place de Petit Sablon

This beautiful park is never big but so beautiful calm place and one of my favorite place in Bruxells.This square(park) is unique because many statue sarounding outside of this park which is member of guild in the age. There are painter, lawyer,banker, carpenter,etc.

プチ・サブロン

サブロン広場とサブロン教会の隣にはプチ・サブロンと呼ばれている公園がある。そんなに大きくはないのだが植物や噴水、彫像の配置の大変美しい落ち着いた公園でブリュッセルの中のお気に入りの場所のひとつである。公園をぐるりと一周する形で当時のギルドのメンバーの職業の彫像が立っている。画家、法律家、銀行家、大工、その他色々。一つ一つ見ているだけでとても楽しい。

Bruxells Travel 5

After hard walking we get some rest at old art nouveau cafe "LE CIRIO".This cafe is located right next to Bruxells stock market but some ruin has been founded underground of street between them. The sign says old century's foundation of fort, castle or charch. LE CIRIO has pretty cat!!But I couldn't shoot well because I didn' t bring tripoid. For long time I would like to stay HOTEL AMIGO because there used to prison for long time and famous poet Verlaine was prisoned because he shot Rimbaud.... But I didn't expect this totel is crazily expensive!! So I couldn't stay but I was so disapointed when I saw this hotel at Bruxells. This is just new brick building and there is no prison image anywhere!!

I am glad that I didn't make reservation.

ブリュッセル旅行　６　～散策編３

沢山歩いたのでカフェで一休み。このカフェ「ル・チリオ」はイタリア系のカフェだけどアールヌーヴォーの古い美しいカフェです。証券取引所と通りを挟んだ向かいにあります。そしてその通りの下から遺跡が発見され、そのまま展示場になってました。説明によると昔の城だったか砦だったか教会だったかの下部分だそうです（おい　汗）。さてこのカフェには可愛いにゃんこがいたのだ♪しかし手持ち撮影だったのでブレまくってる・・・けど何だかそれがいい感じ！？（笑）奥では誰か知らないけれどテーブルでインタビューの撮影がされていました。ちなみに何処の｢カフェ」も大変美味しくてバリバリの紅茶党である私が滞在中紅茶を頼みませんでした（ホテルでは飲んでた）。ここのカフェ＆イチゴとショコラのクレープもとても美味しかったです♪

さてワタクシには「ブリュッセルに行ったら泊まりたい！」と思っていたホテルがありました。それは｢ホテル・アミーゴ」。ここは昔、長い間牢獄だった場所で１９世紀には詩人ランボーを撃ったヴァレリーも収監されていた所です。今回滞在するにあたって１泊でもいいからそのホテルに泊まろう、と思っていましたが・・・・まさか５つ星の超高級ホテルになっているとは思いませんでした・・・汚い牢獄だった筈なのに～（汗）。ここ１泊分のお値段と私が今回２１泊した分の宿泊料金とがそんなに変わらないよぅ・・・(滝汗）。

でもでも、ブリュッセルで実際このホテルを見てすごくがっかり。だって外観は全く新しいレンガ造りの建物で大変安っぽい。情緒の欠片もありません。泊まらなくて良かった！

"The performing sun" painting and woodblock print

Today I made casein with borax.Each time I made smaller amount than before because of too much!! I made 1/10 amount from first try and this is enough for me. Powder casein is less fresh if not use in time so I purchased on last year and still have plenty!!! I hope it is still keep fresh....

Here is my new painting. I still can't decide title but it had finished underdrawing and now I started to use oil colors.I put oil graze on ground part and wait for one night so now I am gonna put tempera white.

Woodblock printmaking is also going good but I am swear that I NEVER USE LINOLEUM for next time!! I don't like this "rubber" feeling.

太陽が踊る新作の続きと木版画

今日はカゼイン溶液を作った。しかし毎回分量が多くてやる毎に量を減らしている。今回は最初に実験した分量の１０分の一。コレくらいで丁度良さそう。しかし、粉末カゼインは長期で保存すると鮮度が落ち粘着力が弱くなるそうなのだが、昨年買ったカゼインがまだたんまり残っている・・・大丈夫なのかちょっと心配～（汗）。

新作（まだタイトルが決まらない！）はまだまだ下描き段階なのだが、油彩の段階になった。地面部分にグラシをかけて画地に油層をなじませる。一晩置いてこれからテンペラ白で模様を描き起こしていく。

木版画じゃない(リノリウム）木版画も楽しく進めている。でも２箇所削っちゃった・・・(汗）。最後に修正しなくちゃいけない。でもまぁ初心者なのでよし（笑）。ただもうこのゴムの感触が嫌なので次は絶対ちゃんとした木でやる事にする。
